Some Youth Football Training Drills

By Nelda Powers

Football is known to be a very hardcore sport that requires a lot of training and a lot of body conditioning so that one can be big and strong. Of course if that were to happen, then the coach would have to come up with a training routine and some drills that would definitely help. For coaches, here are some tips for some youth football training drills.

The most common and actually easiest drill to do is none other than the jump squat. Do take note that one will be running jumping a lot which means that he will have to have extremely strong legs. He will never know when he will have to jump over an opponent or suddenly start running across the field.

To start the jump squat exercise, one has to first get down on a squatting position and start squatting down. From that position, he then has to jump as high as he can and bend his legs in the air. Just repeat this exercise a couple of times and the legs will be having a real workout.

The second drill that would be very beneficial to the players is known as the recovery exercise. This is the exercise that is specially designed for football and would help the player with hand balance. In a nutshell, this is training so that one will be able to balance his running and will also be able to get used to catching and passing the ball while he is sprinting.

In order to do this, the coach must first set three cones with the first one in front of the player to right, the second to the left, and the third one to the right again. The thing for the player to do here would be to run around the first cone and touch the ground there. After that, he must switch the ball to the next hand and do the same to the second cone.

Of course if one would want to increase his running speed, then he has to do the over speed exercise. Now this would only work if the coach is able to find a steep hill to train on. Basically, the players have to run down the hill and try not to fall down.

Lastly, dummy tackling is one of the best exercises that would be used for the overall body conditioning of the players. Basically, the coach will have to set up a tackling dummy on the field. After doing that, the players must be able to push that dummy to a certain part of the field.

So those are actually some of the most common youth football training drills that many coaches are supposed to use. In order to be able to strengthen every part of their bodies of each player, doing these drills are very important. It is essential that their bodies and minds are already ready during game time and these drills will definitely help them be able to achieve that great physical level.
