"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. " | Socrates
One of the greatest most challenging journeys you may ever go on is seeing what your body is able to do. There might be a chance you are in shape, wholly out of shape, or just expecting to lose some weight. Nonetheless, developing a body that you really can be proud, one that's healthy, and lets you truly adore each last inch of it truly is a wonderful journey to try.
So what's the key to making an enduring change with your body?
Consistency and commitment.
There's nothing else like coming to the table each day and giving it your best shot. Your best effort must be yours and yours alone. Don't start comparing your journey to other journeys or else you may become lackadaisical and discouraged. Instead, really try and understand that you are contesting with yourself and yourself alone. Will there be times on your journey where you try and fail? Yes, many times. But every time you do, you should come back with a dedication to achieving something you strongly desire. Consistency will keep you in the game and on the field each and every day. Without it, you may suffer the the inescapable and bad reality of many new years resolutioners who give up each single year on developing the body of their dreams because they are missing the personal power to keep on coming back repeatedly timeand again.
Commitment also comes to mind, though not the commitment that you are likely thinking of. In our world, we are fed this concept that everything must occur right now and if it doesn't happen right now, it's not worthwhile. Your body is going to change throughoutthe years, so why don't you make a real lifelong dedication to keeping healthy? Is that a sexy marketable idea? Not so much. But is it something that would truly change the course of your life? Absolutely.
When you make a promise to keeping your body healthy through your entire life, you will ultimately reach whatever goal you wish. It is all about seeing the overall picture than merely the few months in front of you till summer. It's about developing something that you truly can be happy with forever. For me, that concept changed my life as I was able to finally hit my fitness goals after 12 years of wrestling with my self image and food issues. But as soon as I shifted my perspective of what I was trying to attain, everything I had wished for came to me. So try it on for size and see if it might work for you. Make a lifetime dedication to remaining healthy and watch how much your body will change in the short term also.
Bring some commitment and consistency to the table, in all facets of your life, and things will change significantly.
