Advantages Of An Adult Tricycle

By Nancy Scott

There are many reasons to get out and enjoy the summer weather. The nice thing about that is that you can get exercise while having fun with friends and family. One way is going for rides on bikes and trikes. Unfortunately, many adults have given up riding bikes for various reasons and have a bit of anxiety when it comes to starting the practice up again. The good news is that the adult tricycle has come back in style. These actually date back to before the two-wheeled version. Though they're not built for speed, they provide stability, good exercise, and fun for those riding them.

Getting fit is a summer goal for many people. The excuses are gone when it comes to finding ways to get out of exercising. So, with this new spirit of desire to get fit, it is time to get busy. The summer offers many opportunities to do so. You can play sports, join outdoor fitness clubs, or go for a ride. These are all valid and fun ways to get fit. For many, going for a ride is the best option.

Enjoying the exercise is part of sticking to a routine. The fact that an exercise regimen is tough and difficult is a barrier to most adults trying to get in shape. It is important to find an exercise that you can enjoy and look forward to, rather than one that you dread every day. Riding bikes and trikes is one way to accomplish this. You get to be out in the sun, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the scenery. These will provide encouragement as family activities to get fit together.

Intimidation stops people in their tracks. Being afraid of riding a bike stops many adults from trying it as a fun exercise. They're afraid they'll forget how to do it, or that they'll be humiliated by falling over in front of friends. Riding a trike eliminates these fears and makes it much easier to have the same kind of fun. With three wheels, you are stable and won't fall over. You can even keep your feet on the pedals when you come to a stop, making it much easier to coordinate than a two-wheel bike.

Comfort is key. Speed bikes are designed for the rider to be bent over and become one with the frame. This makes them more aerodynamic to allow them to speed down the race track. For those that are not trying to win a race, this can be an uncomfortable position. With the tricycle, you can either sit back or upright while you ride. It is easier on your back and you have the benefit of seeing everything around you.

There are two basic styles. The first is a completely upright version. On this one, you sit high on the seat, which is similar to most bike seats, and the pedals are directly below you. For the recumbent style, you have a bucket seat, sit lower to the ground, and the pedals are in front of you. They're a bit harder to get on at first, but once you get used to it, you can ride for miles with little effort because of the comfort.

Touring with a group provides a goal. There are many tours available for those that want to enjoy a scenic route while riding. You can often find or create your own route, but joining a group tour gives you additional benefits. You are in a group of peers and will be encouraged. You will also have a guide that will stop the group at specific points of interest that you might otherwise miss.

You need to enjoy your exercise for it to work. Losing weight is done primarily through cardiovascular exercises like running, walking, jogging, and bike riding. Using a trike gives you that type of exercise with stability and comfort. You can spend your summer riding around town or head out into a more scenic area and really enjoy the ride.
